Albany CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) was established in March 2021 as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation with federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status (EIN 86-2658175). Our mission is to expand the safety and well-being of Albany residents and to support Albany’s emergency preparedness, in partnership with the Albany Fire Department.
Our purpose is to expand the safety and well-being of Albany residents, and to support Albany emergency preparedness through a coordinated effort between the Albany Fire Department, CERT Training, Block Captains and Neighborhoods, the Albany CERT Radio Club, and Albany residents.

Albany CERT’s own in-house organizing is not the same thing as the Block Captain program, which is run by the Albany Fire Department — but the two have substantial overlap. The better Albany CERT researches and organizes itself, the better position it’s in to support any Block Captain effort AFD launches.
